What is a skiff?

There is no clear definition of a skiff so we polled the Scottish Skiff Racing members and we came up with the following definition.

Monohull Asymmetrics with a PY of 930 or less AND Monohull single-sailed boats with a PY of 990 or less.

This includes (but is not limited to) the 18ft Skiff, 59er, 49er, 29er XX, 29er, RS800, RS700, RS600, Int. 14, International Canoe, Musto Skiff, B14, Laser 5000, Laser 4000, Cherub, Boss, ISO, Spice, International Moth.

How can I get involved?

Easy - just come along to any (preferrably all!) of our events. To find out when our next event is, check out the calendar .

There is no fee to join SSR although most of our events have an entry fee to cover costs.

What if I'm not confident enough to race yet?

We hold numerous training events which are perfect if the thought of 20 out of control skiffs on a start line doesn't sound appealing just yet. Whether it's from a top proffesional coach or just a "self help" session our training events are the perfect enviroment to help you get to grips with your boat. You'll seen realise that you probably dont capsize any more than the rest of us.
